10 Biggest "Out Of Left Field" WWE Booking Decisions

2. Shane McMahon Returns (2016)

A a time when the Internet spoils EVERYTHING, no one could have ever guessed they would see Shane freakin' McMahon skip his way to the squared circle live on Raw, his "Here Comes The Money" theme music drawing a pop typically reserved for the likes of Steve Austin, The Rock or John Cena. Yet, there he was on the February 25 episode of WWE's flagship show. After seven years away from the squared circle, he had returned to set up an epic encounter against The Undertaker at WrestleMania, the final result of an overly long in-ring promo with father Vince. Eager to ensure the legacy of the McMahon family, he would go on to reveal that he was the heir apparent to his father's fortune, not sister Stephanie and husband Triple H. At a time when fans were less-than thrilled at the prospective main event for WrestleMania, Shane returned and single-handedly lifted spirits with regards to the biggest show of the year. His presence helped re-energize an audience bored with the Roman Reigns project and the general staleness of the product. It was a home run hit by management, a left field booking decision that generated buzz on social media and brought a great deal of excitement back to the WWE television. Easily one of the greatest moments on Raw this decade.
