10 Biggest Promises WWE Broke In 2021

5. “The One Night A Year WWE Goes Extreme”

OK, so the word "Extreme" could be subjective...maybe. Objectively though, are matches like the dangerous Hell In A Cell, peril-filled Money In The Bank and other bouts involving cages, tables and more not fitting of that descriptor? Why do WWE insist on pretending that Extreme Rules is something it's not then?

It's not "the one night a year when WWE goes extreme". Not at all.

That fancy pants tagline has become the pay-per-view's go-to however, and that continued in 2021. Michael Cole proudly barked out Vinnie Mac's flashy phrase several times during the show's build. Come the big night, WWE's mind-boggling claims only seemed more out of place amidst other gimmicky lures promoted elsewhere.

It's getting harder and harder to stomach the Extreme Rules lie with each passing year. What was more "Extreme" about a weapons-filled brawl on 26 September than one fans could see on countless episodes of Raw, SmackDown or NXT throughout January-December?
