1. Wrestling Took Its Toll On Her

As alluded to elsewhere in this article, AJ Lee's career was impactful, but it wasn't particularly long. She first started wrestling in September of 2007, signed with WWE in May of 2009, and retired in April of 2015 at the age of 28. Overall, her time in wrestling came to less than eight years.

Still, that was more than enough time for Lee to suffer myriad injuries, including a damaged cervical spine that ultimately contributed to her early retirement. Lee has been told that the spinal trauma she incurred during her career is permanent.

Additionally, Lee was also dealt seven concussions during the course of her time in wrestling, which is terrifying to think about. Concussions are among the most alarming injuries in sports, given that the long-term affects of repeated brain trauma are still being understood - and so is the best way to combat them.

Hopefully, Lee got out of wrestling early enough to preserve her overall health, as so many other wrestlers did not.
