10 Biggest Stories From IMPACT's Slammiversary And What They Mean Going Forward

1. Austin Aries Keeps World Title In His Collection

While Moose has quickly risen in prominence, the former NFL star has yet to capture the all-important gold. Meanwhile, Austin Aries has been on a tear since his departure from WWE and its Cruiserweight division. Once again plying his trade on the independent scene and as a member of IMPACT, Aries swiftly captured multiple championships across a handful of promotions -- lending credence to his “Belt Collector” moniker.

The braggadocios champ faced possibly his toughest challenger at Sunday’s Slammiversary in the form of Moose, who seemed poised to capture his first World Championship. However, it was not to be as even a devastating spear early on couldn't finish the job. When Aries later attempted to illegally use his coveted belt as a weapon, Curtis Granderson of the Toronto Blue Jays stepped in to halt the attack. The temporary distraction allowed Moose to roll up the champ, but again to no avail. Retaliating with his patented brain buster, Aries drove the challenger hard into the mat for the victory.

For Austin the story remains much the same from here on out — keep his title by any means necessary, though he's sure to have a rough time holding off the likes of Pentagon Jr. and Eddie Edwards, among others. But to doubt the “Belt Collector” would be a mistake, as he continues to prove how adept he is at keeping the World Championship around his waist. It’s a foregone conclusion that someone will eventually wrest the title away but IMPACT fans will have to wait and see just who can pull off that seemingly impossible task.
