Rey Mysterio has seemingly taken after Chris Jericho’s chosen path, which is to work for whoever he wants, whenever he pleases. The former WWE World Champion has recently been seen in Lucha Underground, Mexico’s AAA, at WWE’s Greatest Royal Rumble, and now in New Japan Pro Wrestling. Mysterio was originally scheduled to compete against long-time rival, Jushin “Thunder” Liger at the recent Long Beach, CA event, and while he did make an appearance, the bout was cancelled due to injury.

Instead, Dominion saw Mysterio team with Liger and New Japan’s Ace, Hiroshi Tanahashi as they took on the Bullet Club’s Marty Scurll, Hangman Page, and Cody. The Osaka crowd was vehemently behind the team of good guys and were loud throughout the match -- thrilled to see Mysterio, who was surprisingly competing in a New Japan ring for the first time in his career. Unfortunately for Rey and his cohorts, they fell victim to the BC’s attacks when Cody was able to hit Liger with a Cross Rhodes for the win.

While victory fell through his grasp, Mysterio was able to showcase his unique in-ring arsenal to an excited New Japan crowd. The lucha legend will likely continue to bounce around various promotions throughout the rest of year -- including a match at the sold-out All In show. And while Rey continues to enjoy the life of a freelancer, a return to Japan at some point shouldn’t be entirely out of the question.
