10 Biggest Stories From New Japan's G1 Climax 28 And What They Mean Going Forward
5. Cody Eyes Juice Robinson’s United States Championship
Cody was unfortunately absent from this year’s G1 tournament - thanks in large part to a prior acting commitment. Still, the Bullet Club member made an appearance during the final night event where he teamed with Hangman Page against David Finlay and Juice Robinson.
While Juice didn’t shy away from the second-generation superstar, the Bullet Club tandem proved too much for Robinson and his partner. A Din’s Fire vertebreaker on Juice was enough to finish the match, but Cody's subsequent act was the real eye-catcher. With the United States title draped over Cody's shoulder, a challenge was issued to the champion. Robinson has since accepted via his post-fight interview and Twitter.
With that, Cody will likely challenge for the belt at Fighting Spirit Unleashed in Long Beach, CA. A busy September lies ahead as he’ll not only vie for the US Title at the end of the month, but is already scheduled to challenge Nick Aldis for the NWA Worlds Heavyweight belt at All In prior. Perhaps by September’s end, Cody will not only hold the NWA title his father helped make famous but also get his first taste of championship gold in New Japan.
