10 Biggest Stories From New Japan's G1 Special And What They Mean Going Forward

6. The Young Bucks Searching For New Goals

Matt and Nick Jackson have recently found themselves stuck in the middle of the ongoing Bullet Club crisis. The Young Bucks did all they could to remain neutral while Kenny Omega and Cody battled around them until they formed The Golden Elite -- along with Kota Ibushi and Omega -- at last month’s Dominion. Still, in the midst of all the inner turmoil, the Bucks quickly stamped their place at the top of the heavyweight tag division -- capturing the IWGP tag belts in June.

In San Francisco, Matt and Nick again defeated the Los Ingobernables tandem of EVIL and Sanada. But it was their comments after the successful title defense which attracted the most attention. With their contracts to expire later this year, talk has again begun of the decorated duo possibly heading to WWE. Nick stated they “don’t have any more titles to win” and that they “want to be known as the best tag-team of all time.” Matt then wondered, “How cool would it be to win the WWE Tag Team [titles] and not even have to perform on their show?”

While The Young Bucks will surely do all they can to hold onto the IWGP tag belts, perhaps they are already looking to conquer new obstacles elsewhere. A WWE tag title reign for the independent stars may be a bit of a reach, but stranger things have happened in the world of wrestling. Then again, maybe this is just the brothers stirring the proverbial pot -- as they do often and do better than anyone.
