10 Biggest Surprises In WWE Elimination Chamber History

6. Batista’s Impromptu Match

Edge Elimination Chamber World Heavyweight Championship

As successful as John Cena’s been inside the Elimination Chamber, with three wins from his five outings, he hasn’t had much luck in the moments immediately following those matches.

Opening the 2010 PPV, he eventually outlasted five other participants in submitting Triple H to capture his eighth world title, only for Mr McMahon to appear and announce that his work for the evening wasn’t quite done.

An impromptu match between Cena and Batista was then arranged, and although Cena managed to get at least one right hand in, a huge spear followed by a powerbomb led to Batista being crowned the new WWE Champion. Cena’s reign had been brought to an end after a matter of mere minutes.

I’ve mentioned how this match was made on whim but in hindsight, considering Batista was in fact the centrepiece of the PPV's poster, maybe his involvement shouldn’t have come as quite a surprise.

Unfortunately for Cena, this wouldn’t the first time he’d be screwed in the seconds that immediately followed an Elimination Chamber win. More on that one later, though…
