10 Biggest Tag Team Specialists In Wrestling History

6. Marty Jannetty

Two wrestlers on this list became so synonymous with tag wrestling that they had a specific role named after them, and Marty Jannetty falls on the negative side of the equation.

Unfortunately, Jannetty’s name has become a pejorative for “the other guy” in a tag team. Jannetty is the perennial also-ran, and while he was part of one of the most iconic tag teams of all-time in The Rockers, he was eclipsed by his partner Shawn Michaels. For better or worse, this is his legacy, and he’ll never be able to shake it off.

Marty wasn’t as successful as some of the wrestlers on our list, but he’s likely one of the first people that comes to mind when you think of tag team wrestling. His career came to life in the NWA, and he’d already amassed four reigns as a NWA Central States Tag Team Champion by the time Shawn came along. The (Midnight) Rockers formed in 1985, and their union earned Marty his fifth reign as a tag team champion, and leaving the NWA for the AWA in 1986 brought even more success.

The Rockers signed for WWE in 1988, but they were never able to win the gold. Still, Michaels and Jannetty won the crowds over with their athleticism and charisma and soon became one of the company’s biggest acts. Jannetty’s only WWE Tag Title reign came with the 1-2-3 Kid later in his career, and while Jannetty attempted a number of singles runs, none of them ever caught on.
