8. Loser: Dean Ambrose

What could have been one of the show’s hottest contests wound up being a pre-show snoozefest, as the Intercontinental Championship was defended in an utterly forgettable match.

This marks the second year running that Ambrose has been tipped for a big 'Mania match, only to either choke or be lumped with creative scraps at the last minute.

This was supposed to be a blood feud of sorts after all, and was built upon the idea that Corbin was continuously assaulting Ambrose with weapons. But there were no weapons or stipulations to be found, Corbin’s mean streak struggled to be coaxed out, and both men looked like strangers who had just met for the first time, rather than bitter enemies.

Ambrose’s kooky ‘lunatic lariat’ shtick just felt out of place here, in a match that would have been more suited to brawling. It was awfully humdrum, and the crowd appeared bored throughout. There’s something really off about Ambrose once he gets a few weeks into a title reign: every time gold touches him, he loses a little bit of spark. This match was a prime example.
