10 Biggest Women’s Firsts In WWE Matches

9. Victoria Vs. Lita, Steel Cage Match - Raw November 2003

An edition of Raw Roulette saw Victoria and Lita compete in the first women’s Steel Cage match, something which really should have been a bigger deal.

Fan favourite Lita had recovered from neck surgery and returned to the ring in September 2003 after a 17-month absence — but things weren’t going so well for her. After being dumped on TV by boyfriend Matt Hardy, Lita had also been fired by Raw GM Eric Bischoff, only to be rehired, thanks to new love interest Christian.

A week later on Raw, Bischoff sent Lita to battle the ‘crazy’ Victoria inside a steel cage, and to make matters worse, it was the opening match of the show! The match was aggressive; both women acted like they had something to prove, even if Jerry Lawler was only focused on how much of Victoria’s underwear he could see as they fought.

They were also careful to make full use of the cage throughout the match, with Victoria being thrown into the steel multiple times early on. The match ended when the evil Matt Hardy slammed the cage door on Lita’s head as she tried to make her escape, allowing Victoria to crawl out to victory.

It was a sadly forgettable encounter, with both Lita and Victoria deserving better than having an historic match turned into a mere novelty on Raw.
