10 Biggest Women’s Firsts In WWE Matches
6. Beth Phoenix Vs. Melina, I Quit - One Night Stand 2008
Beth Phoenix shook up the Women’s division when she arrived in 2006 as The ‘Glamazon’.
An accomplished high school amateur wrestler, Beth was known for her power moves and submission holds, but often suffered from being booked in poor storylines. But One Night Stand 2008 stands out as one of her most memorable moments, as she faced off against a worthy opponent in Melina.
Before the match began, one of the ‘paparazzi’ in Melina’s entrance was so excited he fell over as she made her way to the ring (a moment which was then replayed, in case you’d missed it).
The story of the match was which woman could make the other give up first, and both had a variety of submission moves to get the job done. Melina’s immense flexibility helped add extra drama to the match, as she was able to bend herself like a contortionist in Beth’s holds.
The highlight came at the end, when Beth bent Melina into a truly devastating-looking scorpion cross lock- style submission hold, where Melina's feet actually touched her head before she finally gave up.
A truly memorably match - and a high-point of women’s wrestling in the late 2000s.
