10 Biggest WrestleMania Roadblocks

6. Eddie Guerrero - 2004

With Chris Benoit having decided to face Triple H at WrestleMania, there was a vacancy in the event's WWE Championship match. Brock Lesnar, who had held the title since September, would defend the belt against the winner of a triple threat match involving Kurt Angle, John Cena, and The Big Show. The bout took place at No Way Out and Angle won when he forced John Cena to submit to the Ankle Lock. It appeared as though another chapter in the Lesnar-Angle rivalry could possibly be written at WrestleMania XX, but before Lesnar could get there, he'd need to defend his championship against Eddie Guerrero in the show's main event. For once, WWE didn't telegraph the title match's outcome based on face/heel alignments - Angle was a babyface, and so a match with the heel Lesnar seemed plausible. Still, Lesnar and Guerrero had one of the most dramatic matches in WWE history. In an emotional scene, Guerrero won and claimed the title, throwing a neat and clean WrestleMania main event into disarray. Angle would soon turn heel, giving Guerrero a new foil.
