10 Biggest WrestleMania Upsets

2. Yokozuna Defeats Bret Hart - WrestleMania 9

The finale of Wrestlemania 9 must be regarded as one of the most shocking in the event's long history, simply for its baffling (and infuriating) nature. Bret Hart was becoming gradually accepted as the new face of the company, a smaller, more technically gifted star to drive the WWF forwards into the 90s, away from their history of muscle-bound supermen and circus freaks. Fans were finally tiring of Hulk Hogan's shtick, and Bret unquestionably had the ability to usher in the much-needed change. A big win in the main event of WrestleMania would have helped solidify his status as a true star, as well as a symbolic victory over the walking evil-foreigner trope of Yokozuna. Instead, Hulk Hogan embarked upon one of his many infamous power-trips and single-handedly set the wrestling industry back years. He demanded that Yokozuna win, allowing him to save the day in an impromptu extra match and win the WWF Championship yet again. Vince bowed to Hogan's pressure, sparking one of the most outrageous upsets in WrestleMania history as the the dastardly Mr Fuji threw salt in Bret's eyes en route to a universally panned title change. Hogan's subsequent challenge and victory was so quick, Bret had barely left the arena by the time he hoisted the belt over his ageing head. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UBmMuaMOD6o
