6. Triple H Defeats The Rock & Mick Foley & Big Show - WrestleMania 16
Prior to Triple H's successful defence of his title at the first WrestleMania of the 21st century, the main event had never been won by a recognised heel. Although this fifteen-year dry spell would have to change at some point, the Game didn't seem the most likely candidate to do so. Now known as the infamous "McMahon in every corner" match, the most likely participant to emerge with the belt was surely The Rock - arguably at the peak of his scorching popularity. A victory for the ageing Mick Foley would certainly have been a huge shock in its own right, while the less said about the consequences of a Big Show triumph the better. The stage seemed set for the Brahma Bull to regain his WWF Championship when he and Triple H squared off as the bout's final two competitors. Instead, Vince McMahon shockingly aligned with his son-in-law and betrayed Rocky with a dastardly low blow, sending a WrestleMania crowd home with the sour taste of a heel victory in their mouths for the first time ever. Another example of an unpopular shock, and certainly one which could have been executed better, but a necessary turning point in 'Mania's history. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yzp7-A4KtKc
