Largely, 2016 has been a fine year for the WWE Intercontinental Title. Only when looking back to years like 2011 or 2012, when the belt was bounced around from wrestler to wrestler without any real purpose, does it become clear that this year has been better. Even so, there have been teething problems.

For example, why did Zack Ryder win a 7-man Ladder Match classic at WrestleMania 32, only to drop the Intercontinental Title the very next night on Raw? The Miz was the one to defeat Ryder, once again undermining a massive moment in Zack's career.

Lightning struck again with Dolph Ziggler, his victory over Miz (one that saved his career) at No Mercy has already been glossed over. Miz is once again champion, whereas Ziggler must come to terms with the fact than winning such a historic belt ultimately meant nothing.

As champ, The Miz has been a riot. Unwanted interruptions like the Ziggler story have threatened that, WWE need to learn to leave well enough alone. Such short stints do so little to help the titles themselves, let alone the people holding them.
