10 Biggest Wrestling Matches That Never Happened

1. Steve Austin Vs. Hulk Hogan

Thankfully we did get Rock vs. Hulk Hogan, otherwise that match would have easily made it on this list. But unfortunately we were deprived of Steve Austin vs. Hulk Hogan in any form. There were possibilities for it to have gone down, but WWE never quite got around to it, and incredibly, Austin had to retire before Hogan did.

The feud may have not been quite natural to build, which is part of why it probably never took place. And hell, it may likely have not been very good in the ring, but it still would have been amazing to watch.

When it was physically possible for the two to have wrestled, it was rumored that Austin didn’t want any part of it, as he knew Hogan was a master politician and an incredible crowd manipulator. He may have been walking into a WrestleMania 18 type situation that The Rock went through, where he would have gone in as a babyface and still received an enormous amount of boos.

Even after Austin let it be known he was done with wrestling, Hogan tried to make a match between them happen. In 2005, on the Raw Homecoming episode, Hogan laid out a challenge for Austin on-air. He hoped that they would battle at WrestleMania 22, but it never worked out. Nine years later in 2014, Hogan called the Texas Rattlesnake a coward in an interview, likely in the hopes of still getting him to bite on a match. That plan also failed.

Fate was not on their side in any form at any point in time. We can only imagine the crazy political games that would have been played behind the scenes, and of course, how fascinating the match itself would have been.

As Rust Cohle from True Detective said "Life's barely long enough to get good at one thing. So be careful what you're good at." Sadly, I can't solve a murder like Rust...or change a tire, or even tie a tie. But I do know all the lyrics to Hulk Hogan's "Real American" theme song and can easily name every Natural Born Thriller from the dying days of WCW. I was once ranked 21st in the United States in Tetris...on the Playstation 3 version...for about a week. Follow along @AndrewSoucek and check out my podcast at wrestlingwithfriends.com
