Oh would could have been. In a more fair wrestling world, we’d be talking about seeing this match in the near future. Maybe SummerSlam 2017 or WrestleMania 34. Bryan vs. Nakamura could have been a MOTY contender, and it would have been one hell of a way for WWE to promote the Japanese superstar to the main roster.

What makes this even more painful than missing out on most dream matches is how close we got to having it. Nakamura signed on with WWE due in part because of his desire to take on Bryan, but tragically, he ended up retiring just a few weeks later.

Bryan was still at the top of his game when he called it a career, and Nakamura had been one of the most entertaining performers in Japan for years. They're two guys who put the artistic side of wrestling above all else, and would have been hellbent on delivering a classic. It was all working out so perfectly, until it suddenly became impossible.

Hopefully someone on the main roster is able to fill Bryan’s shoes for a ready-made dream match against Nakamura, but right now there’s just no one quite at that level to take his place.

As Rust Cohle from True Detective said "Life's barely long enough to get good at one thing. So be careful what you're good at." Sadly, I can't solve a murder like Rust...or change a tire, or even tie a tie. But I do know all the lyrics to Hulk Hogan's "Real American" theme song and can easily name every Natural Born Thriller from the dying days of WCW. I was once ranked 21st in the United States in Tetris...on the Playstation 3 version...for about a week. Follow along @AndrewSoucek and check out my podcast at wrestlingwithfriends.com
