Sapphire was a WTF signing for a variety of reasons. First of all, when Dusty Rhodes went to the WWF, he apparently wanted a beautiful valet by his side. Sapphire was plain looking and older, so the pairing with him seemed like a dig at his ego (which it was). You see, Dusty was no longer a tough guy in McMahon's territory, he was just a fat dude who liked to dance. While by all accounts she was a very kind woman, her qualifications were highly suspect. Other managers like Bobby Heenan and Lou Albano were legitimate former wrestlers. Slick and Jimmy Hart had been successful managers in smaller territories before joining the WWF. Miss Elizabeth was beautiful, and in a real-life relationship with Randy Savage. Sapphire? While she did have some experience in the ring, she was mainly known for running errands and driving around other wrestlers when they came to town. For Dusty fans who were excited to see him in the WWF, watching him don polka dot trunks and align himself with Sapphire was truly a WTF moment.
As Rust Cohle from True Detective said "Life's barely long enough to get good at one thing. So be careful what you're good at."
Sadly, I can't solve a murder like Rust...or change a tire, or even tie a tie. But I do know all the lyrics to Hulk Hogan's "Real American" theme song and can easily name every Natural Born Thriller from the dying days of WCW. I was once ranked 21st in the United States in Tetris...on the Playstation 3 version...for about a week.
