2. The Love Triangle Mess Of The Summer
As 2015 began, WWE were interested in making Rusev a featured heel for much of the coming year. That was evident during his feud against John Cena, during which the 'Bulgarian Brute' was permitted to defeat WWE's poster boy at Fast Lane. Despite losing the United States Title to Cena at WrestleMania, then being defeated to end the feud, Rusev was still hot property. Then, in the Summer, the company ruined everything interesting about his character. Reports suggested that Vince McMahon viewed Lana as his next top female star, so it was deemed she needed to turn babyface and split from Rusev. Wheels were set in motion, but injuries to both hampered proceedings. Dolph Ziggler was used as explanation for Lana's change of heart, and even Summer Rae became involved. The angle was messy, and thus became something fans were apathetic towards. People cared little for the romantic melodrama also linking Ziggler with Summer, and WWE appeared to lose interest themselves. They're to blame, because the booking was botched spectacularly. The reset button was recently pushed, and Lana is now back by Rusev's side following a flimsy segment of forgiveness. So much for that.
