10 Biggest WWE Missed Opportunities In SummerSlam History

5. Brock Lesnar Beats CM Punk In 2013

CM Punk had perhaps the best three year span of any WWE Superstar in recent memory. From the pipebomb and Summer of Punk in 2011, to his heel turn and association with Paul Heyman in 2012, to his face turn in 2013, Punk did it all. He faced John Cena, The Rock and The Undertaker in those three years and by the time he got to Brock Lesnar at Summerslam in 2013, he was a battle tested top guy in the company. A win over Lesnar would have been huge for Punk but unfortunately, it did not happen. The Beast Incarnate had been sent by Heyman as revenge for Punk betraying him in the first place, so a Lesnar win was perhaps the only way for WWE to go. Leaving Punk bruised and beaten put him at an incredible disadvantage and allowed Heyman to shine in the feud. After SummerSlam was over however, Brock left WWE once again. The win over Punk apparently meant nothing as The Beast moved on and Punk was left with no way to exact any revenge himself. Brock is a big money player, a top star that is brought in only for prime matches on pay-per-view; fans are very aware of this. So with that being the case, this match should have been either a breakdown or a win for Punk. The Best in the World did not get that moniker by losing to less than part time Superstars whenever the situation called for it and he should have been given more consideration at SummerSlam.
