Bret Hart and Steve Austin's classic submission match at WrestleMania 13 is undisputedly one of the greatest 'Mania clashes of all time, yet many forget that it was actually a rematch. Their original encounter came a few months earlier, at the Survivor Series 1996 Pay Per View - a bout Hart won handily. Tensions were kept high at the 1997 Royal Rumble, in which Austin eliminated Hart en route to victory (despite Bret having earlier thrown the Rattlesnake out, an elimination officials missed, allowing Austin to sneak back into the ring). Their 'Mania match went down as one of the greatest in history, especially given its significance in turning Austin face and kickstarting the Attitude Era in earnest. The iconic image of Stone Cold trapped in Bret's sharpshooter, refusing to quite with blood trickling down his face, is one of the most instantly recognisable and important in wrestling history.
