10 Biggest WWE Success Stories Of 2023

6. IYO SKY

Just over a year ago, some fans wondered whether they'd ever see Io Shirai in a WWE ring again, with it being reported that the star hadn't signed WWE's latest contract offer.

Fast forward to August 2023, though, and the now-IYO SKY is sitting at the top of the company's women's division as their reigning WWE Women's Champion.

It hasn't all been plain sailing, though, with SKY often being battered by the likes of Becky Lynch and Bianca Belair throughout 2022 and early 2023 as part of Damage CTRL.

However, things started to properly click for 'The Genius of the Sky' earlier this year in the wake of sharing 'The Grandest Stage' with her villainous pals and 'The Man', Lita & Trish Stratus.

Fans had seen the odd glimpse of the star's undeniable charisma during her Japanese promo battles with Asuka. But it was her scintillating fight with 'The EST of WWE' at Backlash that really announced SKY as a player further up the card.

It didn't take long for Trips to decide that project IYO was a go in the aftermath, with the former NXT Women's Champion then brilliantly taking advantage of an awkward handcuff moment to win this year's Money in the Bank.

And hopefully there's a few more chapters to come in this particular success story post-epic SummerSlam cash-in.
