The Undertaker’s keenly aware with the sentiment “It’s one of those matches that people will talk about forever” that fans still clamour to see him go against Sting at least once in his career. Fans gravitate to wanting this match to take place for their similarly dark characters and the fact they were such important components/characters to the Monday Night Wars. The Crow vs The Phenom would have been special.

But what few know is that these two men already wrestled each other, in WCW of all places. Before he turned into The Deadman, Mark Calaway joined WCW in early 1990 but wasn’t used particularly well, wrestling on shows like Clash of the Champions X and Capitol Combat under the guidance of Paul E. Dangerously and Teddy Long, but mostly being used to put over talent WCW had much higher hopes for.

In WCW the bleached blonde surfer Sting managed to take on “Mean Mark” Callous when he defended the NWA World Heavyweight Championship in September 1990. It was held in the Greensboro Coliseum and was their only singles match ever. It amazingly took place only a few months before Mark Calaway would debut as The Undertaker at Survivor Series for the WWF where he would wrestle for the company for the next 30 years.
