10 Bizarre Wrestling Conventions We All Take For Granted
7. Wrestlers Can Trade Punches Without Sustaining Damage
A common spot in matches sees two wrestlers standing in the middle of the ring, slugging it out with powerful (albeit open fisted) punches directly to each other’s face. Even though they are ostensibly hitting each other as hard as they can, they rarely feel the need to protect themselves from their opponent’s blows.
Have you ever seen the result of a real-life fistfight? If two people are punching each other in the face as hard as they can, you can expect black eyes, split lips, bloody or broken noses, not to mention the risk of serious head injury. Most people will drop to the floor after one or two well-placed punches to the face, especially if they’re not attempting to block.
However, due to pro wrestler’s aforementioned superhuman endurance, they can happily absorb several haymakers to the face before dropping, and will usually not have any physical marks to show for it. Not only that, they will spring up again within seconds, unless, of course, their opponent’s finisher is a punch to the face, as we have already discussed.
It makes you wonder why more of them don’t consider boxing or MMA as a career.
