10 Bizarre Wrestling Conventions We All Take For Granted
6. Climbing A Ladder Takes Forever
Pick a ladder match, any ladder match. There will, without exception, be a spot in which somebody is trying to climb a ladder, but is taking a very long time to ascend even a single rung.
The reasons for this within the context of the match vary. It could be that the wrestler in question is afraid of heights. Maybe they’ve been beaten so badly they can barely move. Perhaps they’ve been the one doing the beating, but haven’t got the energy left to climb the ladder.
Usually, an object the wrestler has been working their whole career for is waiting at the top of the ladder. You’d think they would be able to get a burst of adrenaline, or keep a little bit of energy in the tank, in order to get their hands on it. This is especially egregious if, after being removed from the ladder, they then proceed to execute a particularly powerful move on their opponent. If you’ve ever done some DIY that required climbing a ladder, and also ever attempted to lift a 200-and-something pound person, you know which one is easier to do.
Of course, none of the above applies if your name is Shelton Benjamin, who can climb ladders quicker than most of us can get out of a chair.
