Huh, well at least that explains the bonus coincidence from the last entry.
Batista found himself winning the Royal Rumble in '05, yet come WrestleMania 21, John Cena and Batista both won their first world championship. 2006 saw Rey Mysterio triumph after an hour in the Rumble. Unfortunately, Mysterio clearly didn’t hurt Randy Orton enough, as they would both be competing in a Triple Threat match for Kurt Angle’s World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania 22.
The 2007 Royal Rumble concluded with the epic semi-match between Shawn Michaels and The Undertaker, which ‘Taker won, but Shawn still found his match against John Cena for the WWE Championship. 2008 saw John Cena and Triple H as the last two men standing during the match, yet both men went opposite Randy Orton for his WWE title come WrestleMania. Triple H really managed to defy the odds in 2009, losing to Orton in the 'Rumble and then defending his WWE Championship against him come WrestleMania.
And finally, 2010 concluded this bizarre streak with Edge and John Cena both competing for world championships at WrestleMania XXVI, despite Edge winning the 2010 Royal Rumble.
