10 Bloodiest Fights In UFC History

9. BJ Penn Vs. Joe Stevenson (UFC 80)

“Wrong time. Wrong time to fight BJ Penn right now.”

I mean, Stevenson can’t say he wasn’t warned!

BJ Penn’s pre-fight prediction proved frighteningly prophetic as he beat ‘Joe Daddy’ to a bloody pulp in this one-sided lightweight title clash.

Having dropped Stevenson in the opening seconds, ‘The Prodigy’ landed a nasty elbow that Stevenson immediately pawed at. Within seconds his forehead was gushing with blood as Joe Rogan on commentary exclaimed it to be one of the quickest bleeding cuts he’d ever seen.

Clearly overwhelmed by Penn’s suffocating superiority on the blood-stained mat, ‘Joe Daddy’ bravely made it to the second round but was no match for the Hawaiian’s technical dominance. Grappling in a sea of red, Penn landed heavy shots before he took Stevenson’s back and ruthlessly choked him out, causing his head to spurt blood into the air from the pressure of the strangulation.

The Octagon looked like a murder scene post-fight and, in one of MMA’s most iconic scenes, Stevenson knelt sobbing in his own blood as ‘Baby Jay’ celebrated reaching the lightweight apex by ghoulish licking the claret off his gloves.

This was Penn at his scintillating best; a spell of his career where he looked truly motivated and focused. He’s now in the midst of a seven-fight losing streak and was most recently seen being knocked out in a street fight. Cherish your heroes while you still can, folks.
