10 Bloodiest Fights In UFC History
2. Cain Velasquez Vs. Antonio Silva (UFC 146)
WWE fans unfamiliar with Cain Velasquez’s past life need look no further than this contest for bloodcurdling evidence of the former UFC heavyweight champion’s shoot fight credentials.
Taking down the significantly larger ‘Bigfoot’ inside the opening seconds, Velasquez rained down stiff shots, opening up Silva’s face with a sharp elbow in the process. Within seconds, the Brazilian’s blood had soaked the canvas as he fought desperately to survive Valasquez’s onslaught.
Like a shark in kill mode, the relentless Velasquez continued to attack Silva at a ferocious pace rarely seen in heavyweight MMA. A skilled grappler and top ten-ranked big man at the time, ‘Bigfoot’ was utterly overwhelmed by the speed and intensity of Velasquez’s ground assault.
Thankfully, the referee soon waved off the bout with a defenceless ‘Bigfoot’ drowning in his own crimson and under the pressure of Velasquez’s unremitting offense. In a contest that lasted all of three minutes and 36 seconds, Silva’s face looked like it had been mauled by a Great White. Velasquez, meanwhile, appeared to have barely broken a sweat.
This was a merciless mugging that showcased Velasquez at his brutal best. A clinically controlled beatdown that rendered his victim utterly helpless. It’s just a shame a raft of injuries robbed Velasquez, and fans, of more performances like this. UFC heavyweights though are surely breathing a sigh of relief that he’s now throwing pulled punches in a WWE ring.
