Remember the ‘straight fire’ Becky Lynch from 2015-18? Well, that might be important in this story.
Extreme Rules has come around and Becky hasn’t been seen since the night after Money in the Bank. That is, until a surprise appearance blows the roof off the arena and Becky is back. Becky cuts a deep and thoughtful promo about how she needed to go away for a bit and re-evaluate her career. Becky knows that to be ‘The Man’ that everyone knows her as, she needs to embrace the path that led her there… her old self.
A brief backstage clip is shown of Becky and Shayna running into each other for the first time since Money in the Bank. A confident Becky doesn’t shy away from this, ensuring that she is coming back for her title one day. This is an ever-important meeting as Becky and Shayna won’t meet again for a long, long time. Later that night, Shayna successfully defends her title against Charlotte Flair in a brutal extreme rules match, however, the music of the women’s Money in the Bank holder, Nia Jax, hits and she pulls the biggest upset of the year. Nia is the new Raw women’s champion, becoming the first person to beat Shayna Baszler since her main roster debut.
The landscape of WWE’s women division has changed with a new title holder, a p*ssed-off former champion and the return of Becky Lynch. This should be interesting.
