10 Booking Steps Leading Finn Bálor To WWE Title
9. Momentum Maintained
Bálor is restored through his victory over Rollins at WrestleMania in what amounts to an exercise in either redemption or time travel. With one eye cast in the direction of the distant future, he is refreshed through a switch to SmackDown, to which he is welcomed by Dolph Ziggler, gatekeeper, at Backlash.
Underwhelming as it may read at first glance, there is a sense of realism surrounding the programme; entrances seem to trigger the Show-Off, and since the Demon possesses the most spectacular entrance in modern day WWE, it would make elusive SmackDown sense for Ziggler to initiate hostilities. What's more, this is a pairing loaded with fresh potential. Even with the outcome in no doubt whatsoever, the two are certain to craft something cosmetically exciting. Unlike Shinsuke Nakamura, who WWE attempted to get over as underdog, there is little danger of a similarly painful, one-sided layout. Finn is already established.
Finn is written off as slight (and therefore weak) by some suspicious corners of the WWE fandom - and so Ziggler, the big-bump merchant that he is, represents an ideal opponent. He would sell Bálor's arsenal as something beyond deadly.
