10 Brilliant Things From Late WCW
7. The West Texas Rednecks
Just like 3 Count, WCW somehow created two entertaining musical act gimmicks close to the end.
Curt Hennig was completely wasted while in WCW. While he was nowhere near what he once was physically in his earlier years, he was still a solid technical wrestler and entertaining on the mic. It wasn’t until The West Texas Rednecks came about, though, that he finally found his calling in the company.
Now, the group’s biggest feud was a disaster, as nobody wanted to cheer rival rap faction The No Limit Soldiers. Master P didn’t have a big fanbase in WCW, and all of his friends he brought in to wrestle weren’t very good in the ring. The Southern-based promotion's customers loudly rejected The No Limit Soldiers, meaning management probably should have pushed the Rednecks as the heroes. But such was life in WCW.
The group came up with the entertaining “Rap is Crap (I Hate Rap”) song, that actually found its way on to some country music stations. Unfortunately for fans, the group didn’t last that long. The company was going through a lot of management changes at the time, and decided to split them all up. What a bunch of crap!
