10 Brilliant Wrestling Matches With Seriously Disappointing Endings
1. John Cena Vs. Seth Rollins - SummerSlam 2015
If you had to list wrestling fans’ favourite celebrities, former Daily Show host and card carrying member of the liberal elite Jon Stewart would be pretty far down the list. To have him in a hosting capacity at SummerSlam 2015 was a bizarre enough choice, but to have him run in and affect the finish of the card’s best match was truly stupid.
Cena and Rollins, the past and future of the company, had put on an exceptional battle in front of a red hot Brooklyn crowd, with Rollins demonstrating the sheer breadth of his in-ring repertoire and Cena giving it a big fight feel, clearly with something to prove in a baton-passing match with the younger man.
The match was entering endgame with false finishes coming thick and fast, Rollins unable to put away the resolute Cena. And then, Jon Stewart ran in, bust out a limp chair shot into Cena’s gut, and handed the Architect the pinfall.
This benefited precisely no one and served only to sour the ending of a match of the year candidate. A mind boggling decision to this day.
