10 Brilliant Wrestling Matches With Seriously Disappointing Endings

2. Goldberg Vs. DDP - Hallowe'en Havoc 1998

A meta example here, because the ending of the match itself isn’t the least bit disappointing. Indeed, the bout between people’s champ DDP and actual champ Goldberg is one of the best matches either man had in WCW, with neat psychology and a clever finish. Goldberg runs DDP ragged until he eventually crocks his shoulder. He struggles to lift Page for the Jackhammer and DDP gets a good bit of offense, almost winning before Goldberg reasserts his dominance and retains.

No, the disappointing part is that the home viewing, fee paying audience of 1998 didn’t get to watch this match. Hallowe’en Havoc overran by half an hour, meaning that the feed gave out before the hotly anticipated finale to what had been a disappointing spectacle.

That meant that the last thing those viewers saw was Hulk Hogan getting his win back against the no longer ultimate Warrior in one of the worst matches you could ever hope (not) to see. Their bout was 15 minutes; Scott Hall and Kevin Nash similarly slumped to a tedious countout finish earlier in the show. And this was 1998 - for WCW, the worst was yet to come.
