10 Brilliant Wrestling Matches With Seriously Disappointing Endings
6. Shawn Michaels Vs. Razor Ramon - SummerSlam 1995
Re-teaming Shawn Michaels, Razor Ramon, and a steel ladder seemed a strange move after their seminal match at WrestleMania X. A year and a half down the line they returned to the stipulation for a different, but almost equally exciting encounter. The shock factor of the ladder wasn’t as great as it had been, but the two were even bigger stars this time around, and the crowd are eager to see them renew hostilities.
Much of this match exceeds their WrestleMania clash, as it builds on the previous encounter, referencing spots from the inaugural match. The high spots are delayed, but the psychology is superb, emphasising how well the two competitors know each other by this time.
Unfortunately, the ending goes a little awry. It’s not entirely clear what happens, but HBK makes a hash of grabbing the Intercontinental title suspended above the ring. He scales the ladder, reaches for it, then comes tumbling off for no real reason. Then, he does it again.
It seems to be a botch, and a painful one at that. It takes little away from the match, but the lack of momentum at the finish puts it below the 1994 fight.
