10 Brilliant Wrestling Moments Clearly Inspired By Iconic Movies
8. Outback Jack Vignettes - Crocodile Dundee
"There's no worries here, mate."
When Crocodile Dundee rolled out in movie theaters during 1986, it raked in $328 million. And Vince McMahon smelled the dough all the way from Connecticut.
In a mad dash to produce something to draw in fans of the film, WWE hired Peter Stilsbury to portray a character similar to Mick Dundee, known as Outback Jack.
Although he managed to pick up a couple of wins (namely Nikolai Volkoff and The Iron Shiek), the Australian wrestler quickly found a home in jobberville, regularly losing to the likes of Ted DiBiase and Rick Rude.
For most of his tenure in WWE, Outback Jack spent his time in pointless backstage hijinks. When he wasn't preoccupied there, he cut stereotypical vignetters often focused on Australia's landmarks, Australian customs, Australian foods... you got the point already.
If WWE truly wanted to capitalize on Crocodile Dundee's success and steal some of its fans, it would have been more reasonable to push Outback Jack to the moon. However, Stilsbury wasn't particularly known for his grace or in-ring prowess. Mostly, he served as a poorly executed parody in between more important matches on the card.
If you had asked Stilsbury about his time in WWE, though, he would have told you he had the time of his life. And according to this interview, yes, he was well aware of Crocodile Dundee, and he was even willing to say, "That's not a knife. This is a knife," in his best Paul Hogan impression.
