STAND BACK!

Shane Helms must've been hoping to make a splash when he was one of the young WCW stars who saw his contract gobbled up by the WWF in early-2001. The Cruiserweight sensation certainly couldn't have known he'd be about to embark on a superhero journey that'd make Marvel blush.

OK, maybe not, but The Hurricane was a curious delight that charmed the sh*t out of fans in '01. It didn't matter that Helms was technically on the heel WCW/ECW team; his performances were so over-the-top and fun-loving that fans instantly took to him. He was accepted overnight as soon as Hurri-mania took centre stage.

Here's the thing: Shane switching to such an OTT gimmick during the WWF vs. Alliance invasion business should've been a nail in the coffin for his prospects. Instead, he stood head and shoulders above many of his peers, and even got to interact with top names like The Rock and Steve Austin.
