10 Brilliant WWE Success Stories That Should Have SUCKED

8. Too Cool Parody The Hardys

Vince Russo came to the bland Too Much duo of Scott Taylor and Brian Christopher with an interesting idea in 1999. They were to transform into Too Cool, and become the antithesis of everything that made The Hardy Boys cool with the audience. In short, they were gonna be out of touch, 1980s-tinged dweebs.

This should've been a short-lived recipe for disaster.

Something miraculous happened though. The renamed Scotty 2 Hotty and Grandmaster Sexay (those names!) captured the imaginations of crowds who just wanted to dance and have a good time. Their p*ss-taking parody of Matt and Jeff's legitimate cool somehow got over big time.

Even Rikishi got in on the act, and working alongside the pair definitely elevated his own career. Nobody could've predicted that one of Russo's final ideas before bolting to WCW would prolong a fading tag-team and turn some 400-pound Samoan into one of the hottest thong-wearing babyfaces in history.

Granted, that's a niche category.
