10 Cancelled WWE Shows

1. Prime Time Wrestling

A series of pre-taped '80s house show matches complete with in-studio 'sports analysis' might sound absolutely insufferable, but Prime Time Wrestling was arguably the best show WWE have ever produced.

Forget the actual quality of the wrestling; it was all about the rapport between Bobby Heenan and Gorilla Monsoon. In fact, in-ring action could have been extricated from the show completely, and it wouldn't have suffered for it one iota.

Often this was the case, with grappling completely put aside as the hosts indulged in various extra curriculum activities, including a trivia quiz (opposite a hyperactive Roddy Piper), a hunt for the home of Andre the Giant, and numerous excursions to the likes of Trump Plaza and Busch Gardens. Heenan even took over the programme for one summer, converting it into his own late-night chat show. These were frequently the most entertaining aspects of the show, proving that wrestling often ruins wrestling.

Whilst the format ultimately tended to be more effective in getting 'the Brain' and Monsoon over rather than the featured superstars, it excelled in being the sort of mainstream programme Vince McMahon has strived to create since he first coined the phrase 'sports-entertainment'. And it was genuinely funny too. Turns out a couple of old pros can tickle the ribs with their natural chemistry far more effectively than the quills of a cabal of TV writers.

Benjamin was born in 1987, and is still not dead. He variously enjoys classical music, old-school adventure games (they're not dead), and walks on the beach (albeit short - asthma, you know). He's currently trying to compile a comprehensive history of video game music, yet denies accusations that he purposefully targets niche audiences. He's often wrong about these things.
