10 Cancelled WWE Shows

9. Slam City

Creating a television show with the primary aim of selling pointless lumps of plastic to impressionable kids is absolutely nothing new, and the Network's stop-motion marketing vehicle Slam City simply followed in this grotty, cynical tradition. But unlike most glorified Toys 'R Us commercials, it was actually sort of creditable.

Sort of. The basic conceit saw every WWE superstar lose their jobs and be forced into 'normal' employment. Ensue hilarity. Known Ophite Randy Orton became a zookeeper, Kane served everything flame-grilled as a chef, and lovable rogue Alberto Del Rio stirred up coffee as a barista. With absolutely no hint of irony whatsoever, Brock Lesnar didn't bother to find work. No change there, then.

As far as shows shilling action figures go, it was a cut above. But it did present a strange precedent by suggesting the Network's animated content was suitable for children - a fact which had parents quickly adjusting the filters once the execrable puerility of Camp WWE hammered a tent peg in the ground.

Benjamin was born in 1987, and is still not dead. He variously enjoys classical music, old-school adventure games (they're not dead), and walks on the beach (albeit short - asthma, you know). He's currently trying to compile a comprehensive history of video game music, yet denies accusations that he purposefully targets niche audiences. He's often wrong about these things.
