The second half of the 1990's was a strange time for tag-team wrestling in the WWF. Only duos like The New Age Outlaws had managed to become hot new acts on the roster, but by '99 the company were interested in splitting that team. They needed fresh blood, and they got it.

In the span of just one night, Edge, Christian and The Hardy Boyz filled the tag void. Contesting a tag-team Ladder Match, the quartet revolutionised what could be accomplished in such a bout. The action was quick-paced and exciting, and fans inside the Gund Arena in Cleveland, Ohio responded in kind by making a lot of noise.

Earlier in the show, the hastily reunited team of The New Age Outlaws struggled to elicit excited reactions against The Hollys. That wasn't a problem for Edge, Christian, Matt and Jeff Hardy. The following night on Raw, both teams received an unexpected standing ovation for their pay-per-view match.

Later, The Dudley Boyz would be added to the mix, and history was made in matches like 'Tables, Ladders & Chairs'.
