During his recent excursion over to the UK for spoken word performances, the iconic Sting reiterated what many fans already knew. In his own words, matches against 'Nature Boy' Ric Flair helped put Sting on the map as someone who belonged in main events. There are few better examples of putting someone over than the one featured here.

At WCW's Great American Bash 1990 show, Sting captured the NWA World Heavyweight Championship for the first time. It was a thrilling win played out in front of a rapturous crowd, all of whom were desperate to see the fresh-freshed young star kick the 1990's off in fine fashion. Despite time taken away to heal a knee injury, Sting looked on top form.

Similarly, Flair looked keen to put his younger co-worker over to the best of his abilities. That's exactly what happened, and it cemented Sting's place at the top of the WCW cards for the rest of that decade. It's cool that Sting still thinks back to this match in particular as one which helped him create a legacy.
