10 Celebrities That Had The Most Influence In WWE History
2. David Arquette
Oh, boy, I can hear the clamoring already. NO---I am not saying that putting the WCW World Heavyweight Championship Title on actor David Arquette was the second biggest pop as it pertains to the influence that celebrities had on wrestling. Not saying that. What Im saying is that FIFTEEN YEARS AFTER THE FACT, fans are still talking about this on a DAILY BASIS. And, you know what the funny thing is? I dont even understand why. To me, that particular show was just one of the 116 shows that I was paid to write that year---thats it---thats all it was. But, my decision, which in fact was pitched to me by WCW announcer Tony Schivone, and then got green-lighted by about a dozen others following MY pitch, is just perhaps in the top three things of the most talked about things in wrestling history! People go crazy over this, and while I understand and respect their passion, at the end of the day it was just a PUBLICITY STUNT which worked! WCW found itself on the cover of USA TODAY the following morning. Would we have gotten that press if anyone else had won that tag team match. And, keep in mind, that Arquette pinned ERIC BISCHOFF---a NON-WRESTLER! Anyway, no more defending it here. Thank about it what you will, but, remember, fifteen years later and youre still . . . THINKING ABOUT IT!!!
