10 Changes To Fix WWE's Ratings Woes
7. Promote Matches A Week In Advance
Wrestling has become a bit strange over the years, as virtually every promotion tries to get us to believe that maybe one or two matches is booked for each television taping, and then the rest just sort of magically happen. Luckily for promoters, wrestlers tend to get into a great deal of scuffles on those nights, and there’s just enough time to give them all a match on the show.
Go back and check out old Saturday Night’s Main Events in the WWF, or really, any promotion before the Monday Night Wars, and see how the card was set up in advance. That gave us something to look forward to, and speculate as to how it would play out. Or, just watch Game of Thrones (or many other shows), and at the end of the episode they give you a tease of what will happen next week. For some reason, WWE is completely incapable of doing that.
Now, it’s nice to have some spontaneity in wrestling. If you announced absolutely every single match ahead of time, fans may decide to skip entirely if they weren’t that excited about the card. But there’s no harm in at least letting us know what the main event of next week's show is going to be on occasion.
