10 Changes To Fix WWE's Ratings Woes

8. Turn Kevin Owens Face

One thing virtually every successful promotion has ever done is develop a no. 1 babyface to build around. WWE has had it with Bruno, Hogan, Austin and Cena, but other territories thrived as well with the likes of Dusty Rhodes in Florida, and the Von Erich family in WCCW as the faces of their companies. WWE is badly lacking a top face right now, and it doesn’t look like Roman Reigns or Seth Rollins are going to become that guy any time soon.

As entertaining as Kevin Owens in, he’s not really a great heel. He’s too funny, and too likable, which are traits of a great babyface. Sure, he doesn’t have a traditional look that Vince McMahon oogles over, but that sure never stopped Dusty from becoming one of the most loved wrestlers in history.

What Owens does have going for him is the ability to deliver great matches, cut entertaining promos and build a strong connection with hardcore fans. He’s like a CM Punk/Daniel Bryan-type wrestler in that he’s earned a great deal of credibility with the the most vocal members of the audience, and as we've seen, that can cross over pretty easily to the casual fans. If nothing else, there's absolutely no way he'd be booed at the level of Roman or Cena if he was positioned as "the guy."

Sure, Owens may not end up working out as someone they can build around for the next five years, but considering their last couple choices flopped pretty badly, it's sure worth a shot.

As Rust Cohle from True Detective said "Life's barely long enough to get good at one thing. So be careful what you're good at." Sadly, I can't solve a murder like Rust...or change a tire, or even tie a tie. But I do know all the lyrics to Hulk Hogan's "Real American" theme song and can easily name every Natural Born Thriller from the dying days of WCW. I was once ranked 21st in the United States in Tetris...on the Playstation 3 version...for about a week. Follow along @AndrewSoucek and check out my podcast at wrestlingwithfriends.com
