10 Changes To Fix WWE's Ratings Woes

3. Turn Roman Or Cena Heel

There would be no quicker way to get fans buzzing than to have Roman Reigns or John Cena turn heel. Years ago it seemed that WWE would perhaps turn Cena if ratings reached a scary point, like under a 3.0...and then later, maybe a 2.5. Now that we’re under 2.0 are we going to have to wait until it drops under a 1.0 for them to try something bold?

It’s almost a shame that WWE has waited this long to turn Cena, as there will be many, many less fans around to watch it happen. But now, the idea is that they will come back to see their former hero's journey to the dark side. Of course, WWE would need the right angle to pull it off, but it sure as hell worked for Hulk Hogan back in 1996.

The same idea goes for Roman, in the sense that there’s not much to lose. Fans have flat-out rejected him as the top guy, no matter how hard Vince has tried. Whether he wants to admit it or not, he is a natural heel, which is something the boss should take advantage of, not fight against.

The rate that fans are leaving Raw and SmackDown should be of grave concern for WWE, and it really is starting to become a dire situation. They need to think of something big to get fans passionate again. A Cena turn is one of the few tricks they have left, and it seems like only a matter of time before they're going to have to go with it.

As Rust Cohle from True Detective said "Life's barely long enough to get good at one thing. So be careful what you're good at." Sadly, I can't solve a murder like Rust...or change a tire, or even tie a tie. But I do know all the lyrics to Hulk Hogan's "Real American" theme song and can easily name every Natural Born Thriller from the dying days of WCW. I was once ranked 21st in the United States in Tetris...on the Playstation 3 version...for about a week. Follow along @AndrewSoucek and check out my podcast at wrestlingwithfriends.com
