Remember those mysterious hacking vignettes that plagued SmackDown for a spell in early-2020? The shadowy figure sitting in front of all those monitors vowed to tear WWE down, and ominously said he was always watching. Then, the skits disappeared and everybody forgot about them.

Mustafa Ali eventually revealed that he was the man in the control room when he was outed as Retribution's leader. There was just one problem: Ali didn't do any hacking, and he hadn't done for months. If anything, it seemed like creative had switched directions and then thought they best tie up a loose end along the way.

There was no more chatter about Mustafa's hacking abilities. It was as though that side of the story had never happened. Nah, he was just an evil faction leader who wanted to watch WWE's world burn from the inside out.

What a confusing mess that hacker business was.
