When Mick Foley called for back-up in his heated rivalry with Evolution in March 2004, the crowd erupted when the helping hero turned out to be none other than The Rock. The reunion saw The Rock 'n' Sock team together in tag team competition for the first time in over four years and, with that, WrestleMania XX gained another huge match in the process.

By the time they hit the ring at 'Mania, neither Foley or Rock had competed in the ring for some time. The Rock had been out of action for 11 months, while Foley hadn't competed in an traditional match since WrestleMania 2000 (although 'The Hardcore Legend' had appeared in the Royal Rumble two months prior).

Despite the ring rust, both men played their part well at WrestleMania. In fact, the Rock 'n' Sock Connection's battle with Flair, Batista, and Randy Orton proved to be one of the highlights of the show. Nevertheless, Foley was critical of his own performance, which motivated him to one of the best matches of his entire career a month later at Backlash 2004.
