10 Confusing Wrestling Moments That Nobody Understands

9. The Christmas Creature

Was it a Christmas tree come to life? A version of the Grinch? Who can truly say. One thing's for certain, it's the second most embarrassing thing that Glenn Jacobs ever had to do. Think about THAT for a second.

Created in Memphis for the United States Wrestling Association, the Christmas Creature was inexplicably popular - fellow USWA wrestler Mad Man Pondo recalls Jacobs being asked to dress in the costume more than once after it was supposed to have outlived its usefulness. Supposedly, the territory was low on high-level villains, and the gimmick was intended to help a rookie get over as a heel without having to build a rapport with the crowd first. That rookie was Jacobs.

Now, the Memphis territory was notorious for its ridiculous high concept characters, so it€™s not as out-of-place as it sounds. Still, the thing looked like a Skrull auditioning for a role on The Wizard Of Oz.

No one ever really explained who (or what) the Christmas Creature actually was, or why it was wrestling. Its presence on the card was a mystery. It was like a sh*tty festive version of the Gobbledy Gooker, arriving in USWA in late 1992 specifically for a title vs mask match with Jerry 'the King' Lawler.

Lawler would tease the real identity of the Creature prior to the match, hinting that he believed it was someone from the WWF underneath the mask, come to take his title away. Imagine the confusion when it was revealed that the Christmas Creature was a complete nobody.

Not only did the gimmick have everyone baffled, but the reveal of who was under the hood was even more confusing. They really should have thought that one through.
