10 Controversial WWE Moments That Pissed Off The Church

4. The Birth Of "McMahonism" & The McMahons vs. Shawn Michaels And "God"

During a controversial feud in 2006, Vince McMahon did everything he could to tarnish the life and legacy of Shawn Michaels. He tried to poke fun at his religious beliefs since Shawn Michaels had become a Born Again Christian. Shawn claimed that he would not stoop to the levels that McMahon was trying to get him to. He wouldn't trade in all of the sacrifices that he had made to live a healthy and meaningful life. The two were set to fight at WrestleMania 22. Before the match, Vince McMahon said a prayer with his family by his side...a rarity in the world of WWE. The prayer started out with, "God, let's face it. I don't like you, and you don't like me." In what seemed to be the culmination of the feud, Shawn Michaels destroyed Vince at WrestleMania 22 in a bloody and brutal battle. However, this was far from over. In the weeks to come, Vince began his own religion that he named "McMahonism." He even claimed to have started his own church. This led to a battle that took place at Backlash 2006 where Vince teamed up with his son Shane to take on Shawn Michaels and "God" in a No Holds Barred Tag Team Match. "God" was portrayed by a spotlight that apparently was shooting down from heaven. How could this NOT have pissed off the church?
